Charles & Ray Eames started with the fibreglass series in the early 50’s. In the beginning Herman Miller didn’t have the know how to produce fibreglass chairs. so Eames & Miller worked with Zenith plastics (who was more experienced in fiberglass) to produce the first fiberglass Eames chairs. These chairs are very valuable and popular for the collectors and real Eameslovers.. After a few years, Herman Miller took over the production and made fibreglass chairs till 1989. Today, side chair shells are only available in polypropylene by Vitra (Europe) and HM (US) These vintage fibreglass chairs exist in a wide range of beautiful colors and can be fitted many different bases. the most popular bases are the wooden dowel base or the metal eiffeltower base.
